Best OTT Platforms for Broadcasters in 2026: 8 Options for TV Stations and Media Networks

Eight OTT platforms broadcasters compare in 2026, checked against each vendor's own site: who each fits, live and FAST support, CTV apps and trade-offs.

Best OTT platforms for broadcasters 2026

Updated October 2026 · By Sampath Mallidi, CEO of Revidd

Revidd publishes this list. We include ourselves first, and we say plainly where another platform is the better fit.

The best OTT platforms for broadcasters in 2026 are Revidd, Brightcove, Kaltura, Amagi, Simplestream, JWX (formerly JW Player), Muvi and Vimeo OTT, and each one fits a different kind of broadcaster. Revidd fits TV stations and media networks that want on-demand, live and 24/7 FAST channels in their own branded apps on Roku, Samsung, LG, Vizio, Apple TV, Fire TV and Android TV. Amagi fits broadcasters moving playout to the cloud and distributing channels to other platforms, and Kaltura and Brightcove fit large operators with in-house video teams.

TL;DR: Start with the job. For live, VOD and FAST in your own CTV apps without engineers, shortlist Revidd and Muvi. For cloud playout to cable, satellite and third-party FAST services, talk to Amagi. Pay-TV operators should look at Kaltura and Brightcove, UK broadcasters at Simplestream, teams with developers at JWX, and small subscription publishers at Vimeo OTT.

We checked every competitor fact against the vendor's own website on October 6, 2026, and left out prices. This page covers broadcaster operations: linear channels, FAST, EPG, ad markers, catch-up and archives. For branded app vendors more broadly, including creator platforms, see our comparison of the best white label OTT platforms.

What should a broadcaster look for in an OTT platform?

A broadcaster needs an OTT platform that runs live and linear channels next to on-demand video, not just a library with apps on top. Check these seven things:

  1. Live and linear alongside VOD, with catch-up after broadcast.

  2. 24/7 FAST channels with a schedule builder, backup content if a file fails, and ad break filler.

  3. An EPG for your own apps and for partners.

  4. SCTE-35 ad markers so your ad partners can insert ads. See our SCTE-35 explainer.

  5. Native CTV apps on Roku, Samsung, LG, Vizio, Apple TV, Fire TV and Android TV, named on the vendor's own site.

  6. Archive migration for series, episodes, subtitles, audio tracks and metadata.

  7. Multi-brand support if you run a station group or several networks.

Which OTT platform fits which broadcaster?

1. Revidd: best for stations and networks that want VOD, live and FAST in their own apps

Revidd lets broadcasters and media companies launch their own streaming service on every major screen, with on-demand, live and 24/7 FAST channels in one platform. Native apps run on Roku, Samsung, LG, Vizio, Apple TV, Fire TV and Android TV, plus web and mobile, under your brand. Live events run on a live calendar with catch-up afterward, and the library handles series, seasons, episodes, subtitles and multiple audio tracks.

For linear, Revidd's FAST Program Manager builds 24/7 schedules with an EPG, SCTE-35 markers for your ad partners, an Ad Filler Playlist and a Rescue Playlist that plays backup content if a scheduled file fails. Geo controls help with regional rights, and you can run SVOD, AVOD, TVOD or hybrid models. Branded apps can be ready in as little as 1 to 2 weeks, plus app store review that Revidd doesn't control. Revidd powers streaming that reaches more than 38 million viewers and 5.2 million monthly active viewers across 15 countries. Customers include Niche Network TV and B4Media UK. See Revidd for broadcasters and media networks, OTT apps and FAST channels.

  • Best for: local, regional, news, sports and faith broadcasters, and multi-channel networks that want VOD, live and FAST in one place without hiring engineers.

  • Limitations: no managed carriage onto Samsung TV Plus, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel or Tubi; ads run through your ad partners, not an in-house ad sales team. It isn't cloud master control for cable, satellite or over-the-air, or a pay-TV set-top box system.

2. Brightcove: best for large media companies with in-house video teams

Brightcove OTT builds streaming apps for iOS, Android, Apple TV, Android TV, Roku and Fire TV. Brightcove Live covers everything "from live events to 24/7 linear channels." Its OTT page routes buyers to sales. See Revidd vs Brightcove.

Weighing a move? Compare eight Brightcove alternatives by use case.

  • Best for: large media groups that already run enterprise video tools and have staff to manage them.

  • Limitations: Samsung, LG and Vizio aren't named on its OTT page, and a lean station may get more platform than it needs.

3. Kaltura: best for pay-TV operators, telcos and large media groups

Kaltura Cloud TV pitches "OTT and Pay TV, together." Kaltura says it supports linear, live and VOD content, business models including FAST, SVOD, AVOD, PPV and TVOD, and viewer features such as catch-up, restart and DVR. See Revidd vs Kaltura.

  • Best for: telcos, pay-TV operators and large broadcasters that package channels like a pay-TV service.

  • Limitations: built for operator-scale projects; its Cloud TV page says "any device" without naming TV platforms.

4. Amagi: best for broadcasters moving playout to the cloud and distributing channels widely

Amagi CLOUDPORT is cloud playout that handles ingest, scheduling, graphics and live controls, and Amagi's broadcaster page describes sending linear channels from the cloud to over-the-air, cable and satellite, as well as OTT and FAST platforms. Amagi also sells FAST distribution, its own dynamic ad insertion, and FASTKit for operators, device makers and telcos launching their own FAST service. This is where Amagi is a better fit than Revidd. See Amagi alternatives.

  • Best for: broadcasters replacing hardware playout, or channels that need delivery to cable, satellite and third-party FAST services.

  • Limitations: its product list centers on playout, distribution and ad monetization, and we found no branded app product for a single station, so many broadcasters pair it with an OTT platform.

5. Simplestream: best for UK broadcasters, including Freely and Freeview

Simplestream serves broadcasters, sports, news and teleshopping channels. Its App Platform covers live channels with a TV guide, catch-up and VOD across "desktop, mobile, tablet, Smart TV, gaming consoles," and quotes launches in 6 to 12 weeks. Channel Studio builds virtual and FAST channels with EPG data and ad options. It calls itself a trusted Freely supplier, offers HbbTV for Freeview, YouView and Freesat, and sells migration services.

  • Best for: UK and European broadcasters that need Freely, Freeview or HbbTV alongside their OTT apps.

  • Limitations: much of its offer centers on UK TV platforms, and its app page says "Smart TV" rather than naming Roku, Samsung, LG or Vizio, so US broadcasters should confirm.

6. JWX (formerly JW Player): best for media companies with developers and their own apps

JW Player and Connatix merged in 2024 and rebranded as JWX in December 2025. JWX Live handles ingest, transcoding, ad insertion and delivery for live events, 24/7 channels and FAST channels, and it works with the player you already use. Its video delivery page offers playlist embeds for OTT apps. See JW Player alternatives.

  • Best for: media companies whose in-house team already runs its own apps and wants streaming and ad tech underneath.

  • Limitations: we didn't find a native TV app builder on its current streaming pages, so your team builds and maintains the Roku, Samsung and other apps.

7. Muvi One: best for teams that want a no-code suite across many content types

Muvi One is a no-code OTT platform for video and audio, with on-demand, live and "cloud playout software for linear TV & FAST channels." Muvi lists apps for Roku, Samsung, LG, Apple TV, Fire TV, Google TV, Android TV and VIDAA. It also targets eLearning, fitness and other industries. See Revidd vs Muvi.

  • Best for: teams that want one vendor for video, audio and courses, and like configuring a large feature set.

  • Limitations: Vizio isn't in its app list, and broadcasters should check that its linear and EPG workflow fits how they schedule.

8. Vimeo OTT: best for smaller publishers testing subscription video

Vimeo OTT streams live or on-demand video to iOS, Android, Apple TV, Android TV, Roku, Fire TV, Samsung, Xbox, LG and Vizio apps. We found no FAST or linear scheduling on its OTT page. Separately, Vimeo says Vimeo On Demand, a different product, will fully shut down on November 20, 2026, according to its shutdown notice. Weighing a move? See how to migrate from Vimeo OTT.

  • Best for: smaller publishers starting a subscription service with wide device coverage.

  • Limitations: no FAST channels or broadcast-style scheduling on its OTT page.

Also worth a look: Zype, OTTera, VPlayed and Dacast. We profile them in our white label OTT platform comparison.

How do you choose an OTT platform as a broadcaster?

Cut the list to two demos with these steps:

  1. Name the job. Your own branded apps, cloud playout to cable and satellite, operator-style pay TV, or infrastructure under apps you already have.

  2. Map your channels. List every live feed, simulcast and 24/7 FAST channel for year one, including other stations or brands.

  3. Test the linear workflow. In the demo, ask the vendor to build a day of schedule, publish the EPG, place SCTE-35 ad breaks and show what happens when a file fails.

  4. Decide who handles distribution. Your own apps, third-party FAST services, or both. See our guide to a local TV FAST channel.

  5. Plan catch-up and BVOD. Decide how long programs stay up after air and whether they carry ads. Our BVOD guide explains the model.

  6. Plan the archive move and your exit. Ask how library, metadata and subscriber data come across, and how you would export them later. See our OTT migration guide.

  7. Be honest about your team and timeline. If you have no engineers, cross off platforms that expect them, and add app store review to every launch date.

What is the best OTT platform for broadcasters?

The best OTT platform for a broadcaster is the one that matches its channels, screens and team. If you want on-demand, live and 24/7 FAST channels in your own apps on every major TV platform, without an in-house engineering team, Revidd is built for that. If cloud playout and distribution is the main job, Amagi may fit better, and large operators with engineers should weigh Kaltura or Brightcove. News teams can also read our OTT guide for news broadcasters.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best OTT platform for broadcasters?

There is no single best OTT platform for every broadcaster. Revidd fits TV stations and media networks that want on-demand, live and 24/7 FAST channels in their own apps on Roku, Samsung, LG, Vizio, Apple TV, Fire TV and Android TV. Amagi fits cloud playout and channel distribution, Kaltura and Brightcove fit large operators, and Simplestream fits UK broadcasters on Freely and Freeview.

What features does a TV broadcaster need in an OTT platform?

A TV broadcaster needs live and linear channels next to on-demand video, 24/7 FAST scheduling with backup content, an EPG, SCTE-35 ad markers for ad partners, catch-up after broadcast, and native apps on the major CTV platforms. Station groups should also check multi-brand support and archive migration.

Can an OTT platform get my channel onto Samsung TV Plus or Pluto TV?

Some can. Amagi describes FAST distribution to third-party platforms, and Simplestream says Channel Studio can distribute to a growing set of FAST platforms. Revidd runs FAST channels inside your own branded apps and can output HLS with SCTE-35 markers, but it does not provide managed carriage onto Samsung TV Plus, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel or Tubi.

How long does it take a broadcaster to launch CTV apps?

It depends on the vendor and on app store review. Revidd can deliver branded apps in as little as 1 to 2 weeks, plus app store review that Revidd doesn't control. Simplestream quotes 6 to 12 weeks for its App Platform. Plan review time for every TV platform.

How do broadcasters move an existing video archive to a new OTT platform?

Export your library with its metadata, series and episode structure, subtitles, audio tracks and artwork, then map it to the new platform's catalog before cutover. Run old and new apps in parallel until viewers have moved, and request subscriber data from your current vendor early.
