Brightcove vs Kaltura for broadcasters: OTT apps, live and FAST compared

By Sampath Mallidi, CEO of Revidd · October 2026

Brightcove and Kaltura both sell to broadcasters through sales teams, and both now mention FAST and 24/7 linear on their own pages. They are built for different buyers, so the right pick depends on the job.

TL;DR: Neither Brightcove nor Kaltura publishes a price for its TV products. Brightcove pitches OTT apps with live and VOD managed from one CMS. Kaltura pitches Cloud TV for operators, with linear, live and VOD content and a player it says supports over 8,000 device types. Pick Brightcove if you want a managed OTT and live setup for a media team. Pick Kaltura if you are a pay-TV operator, telco or large media group with engineers. If you are a lean broadcaster that wants branded apps, live and FAST from one CMS, add Revidd to your shortlist.

We checked every vendor fact below against Brightcove's and Kaltura's own pages, as of October 2026. Revidd published this page and also sells a platform, so we say plainly where each vendor is the better fit.

Three questions that settle most of it

  1. Which TVs must your apps run on? Get the exact list from each vendor.

  2. Do you need a 24/7 channel in the same CMS as your library? Ask for a live walkthrough.

  3. Do you have engineers on staff? If yes, Kaltura's open setup may suit you. If not, weigh a managed product.

Brightcove: a managed setup for a media team

Brightcove's broadcasters page says it helps you "Bring linear channels and VOD apps under one digital brand." The pitch is a managed product, and the page says its single CMS frees "small teams to focus on content." Ask for a customer with a team your size.

Brightcove is the better choice when:

  • You want a managed OTT and live setup for a media team. Its broadcasters page says it lets you "Manage live streams, VOD libraries and ad breaks from one CMS."

  • Your apps are for the devices Brightcove names: iOS, Android, Apple TV, Android TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV.

  • You want one vendor for live events and 24/7 linear channels, as its live streaming page describes.

For more on this vendor, see Brightcove alternatives by use case.

Kaltura: a TV platform for operators and big media groups

Kaltura sells to more kinds of buyers. Its media and telecom page says it is "built for media and telecom providers." Its site also lists a video portal, events and webinars, and an education suite, but Kaltura is not only a university tool. Cloud TV is the product aimed at TV services, and Kaltura describes an "open and flexible architecture" for it.

Kaltura is the better choice when:

  • You are a pay-TV operator, telco or large media group.

  • You want one vendor across more than one product line, such as TV, events or a video portal.

  • You have engineers and want to shape the TV service.

For more on this vendor, see Kaltura alternatives by use case.

Devices, live and FAST: what the pages say

Brightcove names iOS, Android, Apple TV, Android TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV on its OTT page. Kaltura's Streaming Platform page names Smart TV apps for Samsung, LG and Google TV, plus mobile, tablet and web. Its Cloud TV page says "any device" and describes a player "supporting over 8,000 device types." Neither list is complete, so get the exact devices you need confirmed in writing.

On live and linear, Brightcove's live streaming page says "from live events to 24/7 linear channels." Kaltura's Cloud TV page lists FAST among the business models it supports, and its media and telecom page describes a "toolkit for AVOD, SVOD, FAST, and live-event upsells."

Both name FAST. Neither page explains how a 24/7 schedule, a program guide or ad markers work. Ask each vendor to show you that with your own content before you sign.

What do Brightcove and Kaltura cost?

Neither publishes a price for its TV products, as of October 2026.

  • Brightcove: the OTT page says "Contact Sales." A Brightcove FAQ says to contact the sales team for a personalized quote and demo. We found no pricing page.

  • Kaltura: the Cloud TV page asks you to get a demo. The Kaltura pricing page shows the media and telecom suite with no number.

Questions to ask on a quote call:

  • What is included, and what costs extra?

  • Which devices and apps are in the first launch?

  • How does the 24/7 schedule, program guide and ad marker setup work?

  • Who builds and maintains the apps?

  • What does a contract end look like, and how do I export my library?

Where a leaner platform fits, and where Revidd does not

Revidd is a streaming platform for broadcasters and media companies. It fits when you are a lean team that wants on-demand video, live events and 24/7 FAST channels, branded apps and monetization, all run from one CMS, without an in-house engineering team.

You get native apps on Roku, Samsung, LG, Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, iPhone, iPad, Android and web. Branded apps can be ready in as little as 1 to 2 weeks, plus app store review that Revidd does not control. You build FAST channels in the FAST Program Manager, with an EPG, SCTE-35 markers for your ad partners and a Rescue Playlist for backup content.

Revidd powers streaming that reaches more than 38 million viewers and 5.2 million monthly active viewers across 15 countries.

Revidd is not the right fit if you need a marketing, lecture or employee video tool. It also does not place your channel on Samsung TV Plus, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel or Tubi. If carriage on those services is the main job, talk to Amagi or Wurl. If you need a pay-TV style build with your own engineers, Kaltura is closer to that job.
