Revidd guide card: 8 Wurl Alternatives for FAST Operators and Broadcasters, compared by job, with public pricing and migration steps

Updated October 2026 | By Sampath Mallidi, CEO of Revidd

Written by Revidd. We include ourselves in this list, and we say plainly where another platform, or Wurl itself, is the better fit.

The best Wurl alternative depends on which part of Wurl you want to replace. For FAST channel distribution to third-party streaming services, the closest alternatives are Amagi and Frequency. If what you need is your own branded TV apps with on-demand, live and 24/7 channels inside them, look at Revidd, OTTera or Zype. Muvi Playout, Simplestream and broadpeak.io cover narrower jobs, listed below.

TL;DR: Wurl distributes and monetizes FAST channels on other companies' streaming services. Pick an alternative by job. Channel distribution and an ad marketplace: Amagi. Channel creation on a flat fee per channel: Frequency. Your own apps with VOD, live and FAST channels in one platform: Revidd. Apps, FAST delivery and ad sales from one vendor: OTTera. Published module prices: Zype. Low-cost playout: Muvi Playout. UK and European channels: Simplestream. Developer teams building channels in code: broadpeak.io.

Wurl describes Global FAST Pass as "the industry's trusted platform for launching, distributing, and monetizing FAST channels," and for publishers that want reach on many streaming services, it is a strong choice. Wurl has been part of AppLovin since April 2022. Teams usually compare alternatives for three reasons: they want apps and an audience they own, they want a different fee structure, or they want a different ad setup.

We checked every competitor fact on the vendor's own website on October 9, 2026. Prices appear only where the vendor publishes them, with that date.

What does Wurl do, and why do teams look for a Wurl alternative?

Wurl sells three things: Global FAST Pass for channel distribution, AdPool for ad monetization, and Wurl Advertising for ad buyers. FAST operators and broadcasters start comparing alternatives when they hit one of these points, all taken from Wurl's own pages:

  • You still sign the distribution deals. Wurl's Global FAST Pass FAQ says getting onto major platforms "requires direct deals with those streaming platforms" and adds, "Wurl does not negotiate distribution agreements." Wurl says it can connect the parties and handle the technical delivery once deals are in place.

  • Fees have two parts. Wurl says each channel has a flat monthly fee that covers distribution to 50+ streamers, plus usage fees: CDN usage by the gigabyte for direct-to-consumer streamers and "a flat connector fee per stream" for headend streamers. Wurl publishes no dollar amounts.

  • No branded viewer apps. We found no product for building your own Roku, Samsung, LG or Apple TV apps among Wurl's three solutions. Your channel reaches viewers inside other companies' services.

  • The ad stack leans on AppLovin. AdPool offers "exclusive access to AppLovin Network demand." That is a plus for some publishers and a dependency for others.

One number on Wurl's page is worth checking yourself: the feature section says "65+ platforms" and the FAQ says "50+ top streaming platforms." Ask Wurl for the current list in your target countries.

Which Wurl alternative fits which team?

1. Amagi: best for playout, distribution and an ad marketplace from one vendor

Amagi is the closest like-for-like alternative to Wurl. Amagi CLOUDPORT is "a cloud-based broadcast operations platform" for channel origination. Amagi CONNECT is "an end-to-end FAST marketplace" where content owners and platforms find each other, and Amagi says it has "400+ channels and 50+ platforms published profiles" on the portal. Amagi also lists its own dynamic ad insertion and an ad marketplace.

  • Best for: broadcasters and content owners that want origination, third-party distribution and ad monetization in one contract.

  • Limitations: we found no public pricing and no branded viewer app product, so most teams pair Amagi with an app platform. See our Amagi alternatives guide if Amagi is also on your shortlist.

2. Frequency: best for channel creation on a flat fee per channel

Frequency calls Studio 5 "the leading cloud-based software for the creation and distribution of 24/7 linear channels." It says the platform is "integrated with more than 200 destinations, including FAST platforms, vMVPDs and O&O applications." Its pricing statement is the clearest contrast with Wurl: "With Frequency you pay a flat monthly fee per channel. No connector fees, no unexpected charges." Frequency also offers Managed Channel Services for teams that want the channel run for them.

  • Best for: content owners that want scheduling, graphics, live and delivery in one tool, with one fee per channel.

  • Limitations: Frequency publishes the fee model but no dollar amounts, and we found no branded viewer app product or ad demand marketplace like AdPool.

3. Revidd: best for broadcasters that want their own apps with VOD, live and FAST

Revidd solves a different problem from Wurl. Wurl puts your channel inside other companies' streaming services. Revidd gives broadcasters and media companies their own white-label streaming service, with on-demand, live and 24/7 FAST channels in one platform. Native apps run on Roku, Samsung, LG, Vizio, Apple TV, Fire TV and Android TV, plus web and mobile, under your brand.

For 24/7 channels, the FAST Program Manager builds schedules with an EPG, SCTE-35 markers for your ad partners and a Rescue Playlist that plays backup content if a scheduled file fails. Channels come out as HLS, so the same channel can play in your apps and go to a distribution partner. Branded apps can be ready in as little as 1 to 2 weeks, plus app store review that Revidd doesn't control. Revidd powers streaming that reaches more than 38 million viewers and 5.2 million monthly active viewers across 15 countries.

  • Best for: TV stations, networks, sports, faith and regional media companies that want viewers in their own apps, with playout and EPG in the same place as the on-demand library.

  • Limitations: Revidd does not place channels on Samsung TV Plus, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel or Tubi, and it does not run an ad marketplace or bring ad demand. If third-party distribution is the whole goal, Wurl, Amagi or Frequency fit better. Some teams use both: their own apps on one platform and a distribution vendor for third-party services.

4. OTTera: best for apps, FAST delivery and ad sales from one vendor

OTTera is a Los Angeles white-label OTT provider. It says you can "launch your OTT app on any platform in 30 days" and "launch your FAST channel on top platforms with our certified delivery service." StreamBridge is its distribution service for apps, FAST channels and on-demand content, and AdNet+ is its ad network for publishers.

  • Best for: content owners that want apps, FAST channel delivery and ad sales handled by one company.

  • Limitations: we found no public pricing, and OTTera's site gives little detail on scheduling and playout tools, so ask for a product walkthrough.

5. Zype: best for teams that want published module prices

Zype Playout turns live or on-demand video into "pop-up or 24/7 FAST channels," with connectors to "FAST and vMVPD media partners such as The Roku Channel, Samsung TV Plus, Pluto, and more." Zype is a Backlight business. Its pricing page lists Playout Standard at $1,999 a month and Apps Creator CTV at $2,500 a month, both on annual terms.

  • Best for: media companies with technical staff that want playout, apps and distribution connectors with prices they can see before a sales call.

  • Limitations: playout, apps and the streaming platform are separate modules, and destination connectors are add-ons priced per destination, per month, per channel.

6. Muvi Playout: best for low-cost cloud playout

Muvi Playout is "cloud playout software for linear TV & FAST channels" with a scheduler and an auto-generated EPG. Muvi also offers "managed syndication across 220+ FAST and CTV destinations." Its pricing page lists Standard at $199 a month, Professional at $499 a month and Enterprise at $1,999 a month, billed annually, plus variable fees.

  • Best for: small teams that want to schedule a channel and get an HLS feed at a published price.

  • Limitations: variable fees sit on top of the plan price, and branded apps come from a separate product, Muvi One. Ask which syndication destinations are live for your region.

7. Simplestream: best for UK and European channel operators

Simplestream Channel Studio builds virtual channels from on-demand files and live events with a drag-and-drop scheduler and "optional server-side ad insertion." Simplestream says you can distribute "to your own apps, to Simplestream's App Platform, or to a growing collection of FAST platforms." Its site lists HbbTV services for Freeview, YouView and Freesat.

  • Best for: broadcasters in the UK and Europe that want channels, apps and hybrid TV support from one supplier.

  • Limitations: we found no public pricing and no ad demand marketplace. US operators should ask which US FAST services it delivers to today.

8. broadpeak.io: best for developer teams assembling channels in code

broadpeak.io is a developer service from Broadpeak. Its Virtual Channel product creates channels "without the needs of re-encoding or re-packaging," and it lists dynamic ad insertion as a separate product. It publishes pay-as-you-go pricing with worked cost examples.

  • Best for: streaming services with engineers that already run their own apps and want to add channels and ad insertion.

  • Limitations: it is a building block. We found no distribution service for third-party FAST platforms, no viewer apps and no scheduling service, so your team does that work.

Which Wurl alternative should you pick for each goal?

  • Channels on Samsung TV Plus, The Roku Channel, LG Channels or Pluto TV: Amagi or Frequency, or stay with Wurl. Our guide to FAST channel distribution on Samsung, Pluto and Roku explains how those deals work.

  • Your own branded apps with VOD, live and FAST channels: Revidd, OTTera or Zype. See the best OTT platforms for broadcasters.

  • One vendor for apps, delivery and ad sales: OTTera.

  • A published price before you talk to sales: Zype or Muvi Playout.

  • UK or European reach with hybrid TV support: Simplestream.

  • Channels built by your own engineers: broadpeak.io.

  • A wider shortlist: see the best FAST channel platforms.

What do Wurl alternatives cost?

Wurl and most of its direct competitors don't publish dollar amounts. Here is what each vendor's site said on October 9, 2026:

  • Wurl: a flat monthly fee per channel, plus usage fees by delivery type (CDN gigabytes or a connector fee per stream). Volume discounts "may apply" for larger publishers. No amounts published.

  • Frequency: "a flat monthly fee per channel" with "no connector fees." No amounts published.

  • Zype: Playout Standard $1,999 a month, Playout Advanced $3,499 a month, Apps Creator CTV $2,500 a month, on annual terms. Destination connectors are add-ons. Zype pricing.

  • Muvi Playout: Standard $199 a month, Professional $499 a month, Enterprise $1,999 a month, billed annually, plus variable fees. Muvi Playout pricing.

  • broadpeak.io: pay-as-you-go rates on its pricing page.

  • Amagi, OTTera and Simplestream: no public pricing found. We don't list Revidd prices here.

The platform fee is one line in a FAST budget. Content rights, programming staff and marketing usually cost more. Our FAST channel launch cost guide breaks down every line, and the free FAST channel launch cost calculator lets you run your own numbers.

What should you plan before you move off Wurl?

Moving a FAST channel is mostly a contracts and feeds project. Plan these steps:

  1. List your distribution agreements. Wurl says publishers make direct deals with streaming platforms. Confirm with each platform who holds the agreement and what changing your delivery vendor requires.

  2. Check what each platform accepts. Ask every streaming service which delivery vendors and feed formats it accepts. Wurl notes that restream channels launch faster than new playout channels because they skip ingest and scheduling.

  3. Review your ad setup. If you sell through AdPool, ask what happens to that demand when you leave, and line up replacement demand before the cutover.

  4. Keep your originals. Hold your own copy of every master file, your schedule history and your program metadata, so you can rebuild the EPG elsewhere.

  5. Run in parallel. Stand up the new channel, validate the stream and EPG with each platform, then switch one platform at a time.

  6. Decide what you own. If you add your own apps during the move, launch them before you promote the change, so viewers have a place to follow you.

New to the process? Start with how to launch a FAST channel.

When is Wurl the better choice?

Stay with Wurl if third-party FAST distribution is your main business and you already hold deals with the big streaming services. Wurl says it helps publishers reach 50+ streaming platforms, supports both Wurl-originated and third-party channels, and delivers "over 4 billion hours of global viewing each month." AdPool's AppLovin demand is hard to match if fill rate is your main problem. Wurl also has a programming strategy team that schedules channels for you. Look elsewhere when you want apps and an audience you own, a single flat fee, or an ad setup that doesn't depend on one demand source.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Wurl?

It depends on the job. For third-party FAST distribution, Amagi and Frequency are the closest alternatives to Wurl. For your own branded apps with on-demand, live and FAST channels, look at Revidd, OTTera or Zype. For playout at a published price, look at Muvi Playout or Zype.

Who owns Wurl?

AppLovin owns Wurl. AppLovin announced that it completed the acquisition in April 2022. Wurl's AdPool product offers publishers access to AppLovin Network ad demand.

How much does Wurl cost?

Wurl doesn't publish dollar amounts. As of October 9, 2026, its Global FAST Pass page says each channel has a flat monthly fee, plus usage fees that depend on delivery: CDN usage by the gigabyte for direct-to-consumer streamers and a flat connector fee per stream for headend streamers.

Does Wurl get my channel onto Samsung TV Plus or Roku?

Wurl handles the technical delivery, but you make the deal. Its FAQ says getting onto major platforms requires direct deals with those platforms and that Wurl does not negotiate distribution agreements. Wurl says it can connect the parties and manage delivery once deals are in place.

Is Revidd a Wurl replacement?

Not like for like. Wurl distributes channels to third-party FAST services and brings ad demand. Revidd gives broadcasters their own apps on Roku, Samsung, LG, Vizio, Apple TV, Fire TV and Android TV, with VOD, live and FAST channels, playout and EPG in one platform. Revidd does not place channels on third-party FAST services.

Is Amagi or Wurl better for FAST channels?

Both distribute FAST channels to third-party services. Amagi adds cloud playout for broadcasters and a FAST marketplace. Wurl adds AdPool and AppLovin ad demand. Neither publishes prices, so ask both for a quote on the same channel and platform list.

How much content do I need for a FAST channel?

Wurl says you typically need at least 200 hours of video to support a 24/7 schedule, and that platforms expect regular content refreshes. Requirements vary by genre, market and streaming service.

Pick the alternative that matches the job

If you want your channel on as many third-party services as possible, Wurl, Amagi and Frequency are the right shortlist. If you're a broadcaster or media company that wants on-demand, live and 24/7 FAST channels in your own apps on every major screen, request a Revidd demo.
