Vimeo On Demand shuts down Nov 20, 2026 and stopped new sales Sep 21. What happens to purchases, payouts and data, plus a checklist to move your library.

By Sampath Mallidi, CEO of Revidd · Last updated September 2026
Vimeo On Demand is shutting down on November 20, 2026, and it stopped taking new purchases and subscriptions on September 21, 2026. After November 20, buyers lose access to what they bought or rented, and every Vimeo On Demand storefront goes offline. If you sell on Vimeo On Demand, use the weeks left to export your opted-in email list, sales data, and video files, then pick a new home: Vimeo OTT (Vimeo's recommended option), another platform, or your own branded streaming service.
TL;DR: Nothing moves automatically, not even to Vimeo OTT. Vimeo says your underlying Vimeo videos are not deleted, but your storefront, your buyers' access, and your checkout all end on November 20, 2026. You can only export emails of viewers who opted in to updates. Download source files while your paid plan is active. Then choose a destination based on what you want to own: a storefront (Vimeo OTT or a creator platform) or a full branded streaming service with apps (a white-label OTT platform like Revidd).
Is Vimeo On Demand really shutting down?
Yes. Vimeo published an official shutdown notice at vimeo.com/ondemand/shutdown stating that "Vimeo On Demand will no longer be available after November 20, 2026." Vimeo's Seller FAQ says official shutdown emails come from Vimeo, and that you can verify the notice by typing vimeo.com/ondemand/shutdown into your browser yourself. Vimeo's stated reason: On Demand "has seen reduced activity over the years," and the company is moving resources to its core platform and Vimeo OTT.
Vimeo On Demand shutdown timeline
All dates come from Vimeo's shutdown notice and FAQs (checked September 28, 2026).
Date | What happens | Source |
|---|---|---|
August 22, 2026 | New uploads to Vimeo On Demand blocked. Existing pages and storefronts stay live. | |
September 21, 2026 | New purchases and subscriptions blocked. Active subscriptions stop auto-renewing after this date. | |
September 24, 2026 | Final seller payouts processed (Vimeo's FAQ says "expected to be completed by" this date). | |
Now until November 20, 2026 | Buyers can still watch purchases and rentals at vimeo.com/purchases. Sellers can still manage existing pages and export data. | |
November 20, 2026 | Platform fully shut down. Storefronts, VOD pages, and purchase flows go offline. Viewer access ends. |
What happens to people who already bought from you?
Existing buyers keep access until November 20, 2026, and then lose it. Here is what Vimeo's Viewer FAQ says:
Purchases: watchable at vimeo.com/purchases until November 20, 2026. After that, access ends.
Rentals: expire on their original schedule or on November 20, 2026, whichever comes first.
Subscriptions: active Vimeo On Demand subscriptions do not auto-renew after September 21, 2026. Renewals after that date are canceled and not charged. Access lasts through the current billing period or until November 20, 2026, whichever comes first.
Downloads: only possible if the creator enabled downloads on that title. Vimeo tells viewers to download anything they want to keep before November 20.
Transfers: purchases and entitlements "cannot be transferred to other platforms." There is no migration path for viewer purchases or watch history.
Refunds: not issued automatically. Vimeo reviews refund requests case by case through Vimeo Support.
Vimeo says it is emailing shutdown notices to viewers directly. That email tells buyers their access is ending. It does not tell them where your films are going next, unless you set that up (see the checklist below).
What happens to sellers: payouts, videos, and data
Vimeo's Seller FAQ covers the money and the files:
Payouts: all eligible revenue is paid out under the Seller Addendum, automatically, to your registered payment method. Final payouts were expected to be completed by September 24, 2026. If your balance is under the payout threshold, Vimeo says it will make an exception so you still get paid. If something is missing, contact Vimeo Support.
Recent renewals or Pro upgrades: Vimeo asks you to contact Support with your renewal date and says it will discuss prorated refund options where applicable.
Your videos: your underlying Vimeo videos are not deleted by the shutdown. They stay in your Vimeo account under your plan's storage terms. Only the On Demand pages and storefronts go offline.
Sales data: Vimeo recommends exporting your sales data from your analytics dashboard before November 20, 2026.
Customer emails: you can export only viewers who opted in to updates from your VOD page. Vimeo says: "for privacy reasons we are not able to provide full buyer lists."
That last point matters most. Your full buyer list is not coming with you. The opted-in list, your own website, your social channels, and your mailing list are how you reach buyers after November 20.
Vimeo points sellers to Vimeo OTT. What does that involve?
Vimeo recommends Vimeo OTT as the alternative for sellers who want to keep selling. Per the Seller FAQ:
It is a fresh start. "Content and subscriber data will not be automatically migrated."
Videos can be imported without re-uploading. You connect your Vimeo account to your OTT site and add Vimeo videos from the OTT Admin. Vimeo's help article notes that OTT does not hold a separate copy: deleting the video on Vimeo removes it from OTT too.
Vimeo will notify your buyers for you. Once your OTT account is set up, contact Vimeo Support with your VOD page URL and your Vimeo OTT link, and Vimeo will send your buyers a notice about where to find your content. Vimeo's FAQ describes this only for sellers moving to Vimeo OTT.
Vimeo says it is "currently polishing the viewer experience for imported content on OTT."
Pricing: Vimeo links to its own Vimeo OTT pricing breakdown. Check it there. We do not quote it here.
If you already run on Vimeo OTT and are thinking about leaving it too, our Vimeo OTT migration plan covers exports, billing, app cutover, and timelines.
Your options after Vimeo On Demand
There is no single right answer. It depends on how big your library is and how much of the viewer relationship you want to own.
Option | Best for | What carries over from Vimeo On Demand | What you own | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Vimeo OTT (Vimeo's recommended path) | Sellers who want the shortest move and to stay in the Vimeo ecosystem | Vimeo videos can be linked in without re-uploading; Vimeo will notify your buyers on your behalf. Subscriber data does not migrate. | A storefront and subscription or purchase/rental products on Vimeo OTT | Still a fresh start. Check fees on Vimeo's pricing page. Linked videos depend on your Vimeo account. |
Creator membership platforms | Solo creators and small brands selling memberships or courses to a community | Nothing automatic. Re-upload files; invite your opted-in list. | Storefront and membership | Built for creators, not for running a TV-style service with live and linear channels |
Film distributors and third-party storefronts | Filmmakers with one film or a small slate who want reach more than their own storefront | Nothing automatic. Deliver files and metadata to each partner. | Usually the rights, not the viewer relationship | Terms, fees, and control vary by partner. Read the contract. |
Video hosting or streaming infrastructure | Teams with developers who want to build their own front end | Nothing automatic. Upload files; build checkout and apps yourself. | Everything you build | Needs engineering time and budget |
Your own branded OTT service (white-label OTT, such as Revidd) | Content-library owners, networks, and media companies that want their own apps on TV and mobile, plus VOD, live, and FAST in one place | Nothing automatic. Ingest your files and metadata; relaunch to your list under your own brand. | Your brand, your apps, your audience, your pricing model | More setup than a simple storefront. App store review adds time. Overkill for a single title. |

What to do before November 20, 2026: step-by-step checklist
Work through this in order. Items 1 through 5 protect what you already have. Items 6 through 10 set up where you go next.
Confirm your final payout. Vimeo expected final payouts to be done by September 24, 2026. If yours has not arrived, contact Vimeo Support with your account email. Save your payout statements and tax documents for your records.
Export your opted-in email list. In your VOD page settings, open the Audience tab and click "Export email addresses" under "Download your fans' email addresses." You must accept Vimeo's Acceptable Use Email Policy first. Only opted-in viewers are included. (Seller FAQ)
Export your sales data from your Vimeo analytics dashboard. Vimeo recommends doing this before November 20. You will want it for taxes, for pricing decisions on the new platform, and for knowing which titles sold.
Download your video files, one at a time. From your library, open the video, click the arrow on the Share button, choose Download, and pick the version. This needs a paid Vimeo plan, and Vimeo says there is no bulk download. (Vimeo Help Center)
Get source files, not just Vimeo's copies. Vimeo keeps your original upload only if you are on a paid plan and had Keep source video files turned on. Turning it on now does not restore files already removed, and source files may be deleted if your paid membership ends. Keep your plan active until your downloads are done, and keep your own backups. (Vimeo Help Center) Your own edit masters are better than any download.
Copy your catalog details. Vimeo's shutdown pages do not describe a metadata export, so save titles, synopses, credits, trailers, poster art, captions, and your price points yourself before the pages go offline.
Pick your destination and get it live before November 20. Buyers hear from Vimeo that access is ending. You want a working place to send them on the same day. If you choose a service with TV apps, plan for store review time.
Decide how to treat past buyers. Purchases cannot transfer. Decide whether you will offer past buyers free or discounted access on your new platform, and how you will verify them (your sales export helps).
Tell your audience where you are going. Email your opted-in list, post on your site and social channels, and update every link, QR code, and press kit that points to a Vimeo On Demand page. Those pages go offline on November 20. If you move to Vimeo OTT, also ask Vimeo Support to notify your buyers.
Test checkout before you announce. Make one real purchase or subscription on the new platform, then watch the title on web, phone, and TV.

When does your own branded OTT service make sense?
Vimeo On Demand was a storefront on someone else's platform. That is why this shutdown hurts: when the storefront closed, the checkout, the buyer access, and most of the buyer list closed with it. Your own branded OTT service is the opposite setup. The apps, the brand, and the subscriber relationship are yours.
That makes sense when you have a real library (a slate of films, series, a back catalog, a sports or faith archive, a regional network) and you want:
Your own apps on every major screen. Revidd builds branded apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, Apple TV, Android TV, Fire TV, Roku, Samsung, LG, Vizio, and the web, from one integration that reaches 50+ device endpoints. See OTT apps.
VOD, live, and FAST in one platform. Put your library on demand, stream live events with DVR and catch-up, and run your own branded FAST (free ad-supported) channel inside your apps, with an EPG and SCTE-35 ad markers. See FAST channels.
Your choice of business model. Subscription (SVOD), per-title purchase or rental (TVOD), pay-per-view, ad-supported (AVOD), or a hybrid. Ads run through your ad partners.
A library that is built for series, not just single titles. Movies, episodes, seasons, series, and collections, with multi-audio tracks, subtitles, and geo controls.
Speed without an engineering team. Revidd can deliver branded apps in as little as one to two weeks. App store review is outside Revidd's control, so plan around it.
Revidd powers streaming that reaches more than 38 million viewers and 5.2 million monthly active viewers across 15 countries. Library-driven services such as Wi-Flix and Ultra Media and Entertainment run their branded streaming on Revidd.
If you are evaluating this route, our guide to choosing a white-label OTT platform lists the questions to ask any vendor, including data export and portability, so you do not end up in the same position again.
When Revidd is not the right fit
Be honest with yourself about scale and timing. Revidd is probably not your best move if:
You sell one film or a handful of titles. A branded app network is more than you need. Vimeo OTT, a creator platform, or a distributor will be simpler.
You want Vimeo to notify your buyers for you. Vimeo's FAQ offers that only to sellers moving to Vimeo OTT.
You need a checkout provider other than PayPal or Razorpay. PayPal and Razorpay are the payment integrations Revidd confirms today. Confirm your payment needs on a demo call before you commit.
Your goal is placement on Pluto TV, Samsung TV Plus, The Roku Channel, or Tubi. Revidd runs branded FAST channels inside your own apps. It does not provide managed carriage onto those services. That is the job of FAST distribution specialists.
You are a membership or course business first. Creator membership platforms are built around community and courses. Revidd is built for TV-style streaming services.
You need TV apps live on a guaranteed date before November 20. Revidd's build time is short, but app store review is out of anyone's control. If the date is fixed, launch web first and add TV apps as stores approve them.
Conclusion: Vimeo On Demand is shutting down, so move on your terms
Vimeo On Demand is shutting down on November 20, 2026. New sales already stopped on September 21. Buyers lose access on the shutdown date, purchases do not transfer, and only opted-in emails can be exported. Protect what you have first: payouts, emails, sales data, and source files. Then choose where you go next based on what you want to own. If the answer is your own branded streaming service with apps, live, and FAST, we can help you plan it.
